Concord Floral

Everyone loves nature, even people raised in the most urban environments. Something about the natural look of green, combined with the colours of different flowers attracts our attention. And what better place to see all of this, but at a set of greenhouses?

So what happens after a greenhouse is shutdown and left to nature? Surprisingly, it isn't completely taken over... because of the greenhouse effect. The buildings themselves become far too hot for plants to grow properly, and they die from the heat and lack of water. However, in spots where windows have been broken, the plant life flourishes.

Of course, broken windows means broken glass. There is a fair amount of broken glass where windows have shattered, either from weight on the roof or from plants growing through the windows. There is also the normal abandonment hazards; rust and water damage. Some of the buildings also have power running to them, so avoidance of exposed wiring would be a good idea.

While there is no active security on the site from what we could tell, there were active motion sensors in some of the buildings. We figured they weren't connected to any monitoring service. And this is mostly the case... the exception is in the powerhouse, connected to both the boilerhouse and the large greenhouse.

It has an alarm. It still works. It is also exceptionally loud. We didn't stay to see if it was monitored.

Regardless, take a visit up to this place. It is a nice, easy exploration at a very picturesque location.

AUGUST 8, 2012 UPDATE
sQualie over on UER reports that she swung by about 2 weeks ago, and there was nothing left except for the stack. Looks like she's gone. Hope that cat I saw there finds a new haunt.
