Dain City. A company town located in the Niagara Region, built to support the Dain Manufacturing Company Ltd facility, who were bought out by John Deere shortly after establishing the town and facility. Today, it is now an suburb of nearby Welland, and the remains facility it was built to support stand, losing to the reclaiming power of nature.

The facility was once the home to John Deere's Canadian operations; a vast manufacturing plant located on the edge of the original Welland Canal. It survived through two world wars and the Great Depression, owing in part to their diversification. In the end, though, the facility fell to globalization, with the jobs moving to plants in Wisconsin and Mexico.

Large parts of the plant have already been demolished; only about a third of the facility remains standing to this day. What remains is the newest buildings on the property; all of the original structures were removed to make way for environmental remediation on the property as preparation for any potential sale of the property.

The remaining buildings have been thoroughly gutted, save for a few small tanks and some electrical equipment. The scrappers have also been through, stripping out some of the infrastructure in the plant. And one can't forget the vandals; pretty much every pane of glass on the property is no longer intact... including the skylights in the office areas.

And, as a final though... do be aware that the plant is deep in tick country. Zen and I managed to pick up a few unwanted guests during our visit to the derelict works.
