Earth Sciences Building
University of Toronto

One of the larger buildings on the U of T St. George Campus, Earth Sciences stands out, especially at night, where the orange glow bathing it's top floor greenhouses can be seen from most spots on campus.

Most of the Earth Sciences building is fairly uneventful; near identical classrooms and offices inhabit most of the spaces in the building. There are some hidden gems, however... the basement houses some interesting utility rooms if you can get into them, and the top floor greenhouses are interesting to poke around.

The real fun at Earth Sciences, however, begins if you can get out onto the roof. To do so, some ingenuity is required as all the doors that lead out are locked from the inside, but it can be done if you keep your eyes open. Once on top, you get a good view of the west side of campus, and can also crawl around in the maze of pipework, steel bracing, and tension cables to get to the south end of the roof where you can get a good look at Spadina Circle and parts of the southern end of campus. The only real downfall to the roof is that parts of it are visible to students living in the New College Residence, next door to the building.

At night, there might also be a few graduate students around, but they're likely not to be in the penthouse area, where most of the good stuff is. Just try not to make too much noise when you're in the hallways, and they won't even know that you were there. Which is exactly how it should be.

If you're into roofing and utility rooms, then Earth Sciences can be a decent location... but if you're not, then you're likely just wasting your time.
